AND THE WINNER IS………A DOSE OF REALITY!!!!!

Wow! It is official…….my book, ” A Dose of Reality: Losing William to the Big Business of Cancer in America” has been declared a winner in The Global e-Book Awards!!!  It was declared the winner in the Medicine/Health Care category last night  during the awards banquet in Santa Barbara, California.

This was the inaugural year of the writing contest initiated by Dan Poynter, author of more than 120 books and publisher of Para Publishing. My book was in the writing and rewriting stage for almost four years before a series of uncanny events began taking place in June.

I had joined a couple of writing groups online to ask for help with a new title for my book.  I could not feel settled on one of the many that had come to me, and everyone I asked seemed to have a different and strong opinion on what it should be.  A man named Joseph Dowdy from my LinkedIn writer’s group said something that made absolute sense to me. He said the title of my book should “smell like cookies baking in the oven–you know what you’re going to get when you read the book.” None of my titles really fit that description. Joseph Dowdy turned out to be a very compassionate man that understood the loss I was writing about and offered to help me advance my book anyway he could. He also happened to be the director of the Global e-Book Awards and told me to think about entering the contest for the publicity the contest could give my book and its purpose to help others. There are no accidents, only divine messengers. Joseph was one of them. William would begin sending me messages at the same time.

In  about 2 weeks time, I had the perfect new title pop into my head, the perfect cover idea, a blog offering my book for sale–which was a requirement of the contest–and a PDF version of the book and cover on the blog. That all came through the help of very good friends and talented individuals. Thanks especially to David Landis of Landis Productions for creating the cover and handling the technical difficulties, as well as  working me into his crazy, busy summer schedule!

Susan Dane and Anne Knipe were my angel editors, and without Joseph Dowdy, I would have had no known reason to shift into high gear and get the job done…finally! The compassionate offer of help from a total stranger astounded  me.

To hear about William’s part in my push to progress, you will have to read the book to understand the significance of the sign he sent me, telling me to release the book.

The judge who read my book said she would not be interested in any book in the health care category, and in her own words said, “I planned to skim through the book, but became engrossed in it and finished it in 2 hours!! It was an easy read.”

She also said “the love story was touching and believable.”  She gave the book 138/150 and a total of 966/1000 points to score it the winner in the category.

The book is for order here on the blog in e-book form and can be read on an iPad.  Special Launch Price of $12.00 gets you the e-book version now and the printed version in the near future!

Thank you for your support. I believe you will like the book.

Thank you for your order!

Dear Friend:

If you have found yourself on this page, it means you have decided to purchase my e-book about losing William, and for that I would like to thank you very much.  Since it is a memoir, you probably realize that you will be traveling with me and William through a confusing and chaotic time of his relatively short time with cancer.  You will learn what I learned along the way as one of his primary caregivers. I am sure you will find it interesting and informative. You will gain an awareness that may change your thoughts about a cancer diagnosis. At least I hope you do.

Reliving the experience has been a cathartic journey for me spanning almost four years of writing, rethinking, researching, remembering, and grieving my loss.  There was a present for me during this period in the discovery that William was still with me, leading me and still loving me.  So, in gratitude for your purchase of this book, there is an opportunity for you to receive a discounted version of the next part of my journey with William, a book entitled:  A Spirit in the Doorway.  You will receive information about ordering that book when I email you the book you have just ordered.

I would love to hear your comments on the book, and again, thank you for allowing me to share our story with you.

In Love and Light,

Deb

A Dose of Reality

NEW BOOK LAUNCH!!  After four long years, I am ready to share with the world the incredible story of love and loss that has marked my world since 9/11/2007.

There are many life challenges that we wish we did not have to overcome, but loss just may be the biggest.  Losing William, my twin soul mate, to cancer  is the toughest life lesson I have ever endured, but losing him to a medical system once designed around the notion to ” do no harm” made the loss even harder to accept.  I did not see the effects of cancer on William–I saw the devastating effects of the treatment that he thought was going to save his life.

I learned what I would do if I ever received such a diagnosis, and by reading this book, you will know better  what you should do, too. Cancer does not have to mean death.  A special ebook launch price of $12.00 is being offered for a limited time.  The dose of reality you gain in awareness from William’s story will be priceless.

Hello world!

I have arrived!! I AM a blogger–I need to research that word; who came up with it and why?  Did Webster know that term? Anyway, I’ll get to that.  Right now, I just want to say, “Hello World and Fellow Bloggers!” I feel real now. A real writer. A real contributor. Please, let me know you are here—I’d hate to think that I was born to a place void of human companionship. That brings up a whole new slew of problems. If no one is here with me–am I real? Will I be able to be a contributor? I think not. So, that’s it. I am not saying anything else until someone shows up and lets me know that I am not talking to myself. They have places for people like that.

Is anybody listening……………………..?  Hello…..World?
